interior light with manual switch

Anyone can tell me where I could buy one of those lights with a manual switch? I suppose it would be easier to remove the lightbulb and forget about the light. I do just that when the battery is being charged.

I originally slide the bulb completely to one side to prevent bulb usage.
Then I switched to the the light below ( http://silverwing.org/cgi-bin/topic_show.pl?pid=3557#pid3557 )

I now keep my my Fenix L2D Q5 (Christ-mas gift from my son) in my left glove box on the right bottom side and it always remains in the same position ... so another alternative is to carry a flashlight which would be helpful for other emergencies.

You need a Honda Trunk Light #34260-SH3-004 1994-2001 Acura Integra 3 Door Hatch Back. It comes with the switch and you can go to your local Honda Car dealer and order this for around $28.00 u.s.

I just finished this mod and the Honda part cited above works great. It cost me CDN $21 from the local Honda car dealer and it is truly a plug and play swap.

Took all of 1 minute to complete.

It took me much longer than a minute. The Honda light casing appears to be the same size as the original - but it just didn't want to go in. I finally got it, though, and I'm really happy with it.

This is a good topic to BUMP.

Do a little shopping with this Honda part number and find the best deal on the part and shipping.

Dang, you mean I have a light under the seat? Previous owner must have removed the bulb if I do. I'd go out to shed to look but its just too cold this morning.

Waspie: Just figured the SW was so retro it never had a light put under there. Besides, that little hole ain't big enuf to need a light.

I disagree, ulflyer. I really enjoy having a switchable Honda dome light there. Especially at night when I'm donning my helmet in a dark parking lot. That little bit of light is certainly welcome.

Mark; you need a light to put your helmet on?

Why not just start the engine and warm it up whilst donning helmet? Loads of light then from the main beam!!

Bob just popped in the manual interior trunk light. Very simple.

Thank's to this forum and post it went very smoothly.

I will rest easy knowing I should not have a dead battery by forgetting to close the trunk all the way. I was lucky enough to spare myself that headache. There were times I thought I closed it all the way and I didn't.
Pure luck that I caught it in time.

I sure agree with you. This light is easy to install and it's sure nice to be able to turn the light off with the flick of a switch. I just wish Honda would have thought about installing these when they designed this scooter.

That would make a lot more sense to have a manual switch. To bad they don't seem to read these forums. They could make some simple positive changes.

Got the light and did this to mine finally.
After a week's wait for the part, installation was about 45 seconds.
I had been running with the lamp pulled but its nice to have the option of light at the flick of a switch.

I also jumped in and completed the interior light modification - part cost around $30 with tax and also waited about a week to get it.

It took a little longer than "Fiddler's" installation but part of that was finding the correct size screwdriver to pop it out - unplug/replug the connector and pop the new one in place - perfect fit and now let there be light!

I also realize by posting this that will be opening myself to good natured comments from the group but what the heck I have big shoulders.

Just realized that I have now brought the Silverwing up to the level of my wife's former Yamaha Morphous which came with a light and switch - kind of funny.

I guess putting in an LED makes some sense but my SW is a 2002 and being old it doesn't know the difference - I'm just happy to have it there and thereby don't half to search for that cheep flashlight that never wants to be found.

Maybe I will change it some day but for now on to other more important things like my horn - that is another subject.

I have the standard horn but have a Screeming Banshee in the box waiting to be installed - feel the need to have vehicles hear my horn when it is appropriate to use it. My Burgy friend has already installed his and will lend me his expertise after I pull off the plastic - without ABS I should be able to place the horn between the forks - when it is completed will post my comments.

After killing the ridiculously expensive battery I finally installed the Acura switched light. It truly is a 30 second swap. That said, I'm bringing up this topic because my local Acura dealer had to get it from the California warehouse and it was the only one stateside, according to his computer. Anyone considering this light should go ahead and pull the trigger; it was OEM for a 1994 Integra and may not be available much longer.

I think the best advice i got when i first joined this Forum, was, " take out the interior light bulb". One morning the bike would not start and the battery was completely dead, reason , the seat had not been closed fully, and the light had flattened the battery. After two years i have never needed a light under the seat and certainly don't need one,but maybe other people do.

I bought a 3 quid multiple LED light and keep it under the seat, I can use it velcroed to the seat base, or move it to any position under the seat. It's also got a magnet and a hook so I can use it off the bike as an inspection light or inside a tent. Out of the box full on display in the ironmongers where I bought it, I picked the only one that already had batteries fitted.

There is no question that the light that is in the trunk is of limited use.
You can certainly keep a flashlight that has velcro, magnets, or even one that opens up into a headband that you can wear, available for use. A moveable light is certainly more versatile that a stationary one.

But I think it bothers many of us that a feature that came with the bike must be disabled. I paid for the feature and dammit I want it!

Although we are spending an additional $30 to get it working the way WE want it to, the $30 only hurts for a moment, and the feature works for the rest of the bike's life. Their is a certain satisfaction at having overcome a manufacturer's mistake.

Meldrew, is this what you are talking about? This is what I got at Harbor Freight for $3.00

That's a very similar light only mine is round, and the on/off switch is where your 3 side LEDs are. It's all you really need isn't it, and if Dr Pulley sold them they'd all want one. After my earlier post, I've just gone and removed the bulb from the under seat light and covered the ends with tape, I'll put it back in position tomorrow.

Model 28a, that is excatly like the one i have although, I've never used it.

What I like is it uses 3 AAA batteries instead of those pesky button batteries.
One thing I have found out about led lights though is, if they start to get dim change the batteries or they will leek and ruin the light. I have lost two good lights due to leaking batteries.
