| I have seen a lot of articles here describing modifications such as new variators, roller weights, clutches, power commanders, etc. but i haven't seen anyone mention after-market exhausts such as LeoVince.
I know in the Harley world, one of the first modifications people do to their new bikes is put in a free-flowing air filter (like a K&N) and exhaust system since they come from the factory choked down to California emission standards. Supposedly they pick up a few more HP and MPG. I have a K&N filter and Vance and Hines Straightshot slip-on pipes on my Super Glide. I can't tell a big difference in performance but I did notice about 3-5 more MPG and it sure sounds sweet without being too loud -( I have the optional quiet baffles).
Does the same apply to our Swings? |

| K&N? I don't recommend that. The K&N certainly flows better, but it lets in significantly more dirt. Don't let them lie to you. Even the "improved flow" might not be as great as you think. The whole theory is that the stock filter is too restrictive, but in reality most of them flow more air than the engine can use. Maybe you'll pick up a trivial amount of power, but at what cost? I use an Amsoil cleanable filter. It's supposed to give you CLEANER air with no loss of flow. That's the direction I prefer to go. There is an exhaust thread somewhere. Leo Vince does make one. It's nice looking too. Some of the aftermarket cans look like.....cans. No style. |

| Aftermarket exhaust is more a matter of personal preference. You may gain a horsepower or two and MPG may be a little better. Also, how much noise can you stand? How much noise can you make without P.O.ing your neighbors. The higher the db of your environment the faster you lose your hearing. Just my $.02. Wes |

| I think you need to get a power commander and have it dyno'd for best results, if one decides to get a performance muffler. At least that is what I have read. A few people on this site have done this with great success. Bernardo and Dan have about 44 hp to the rear wheel with this combination, and the J. Costa included with this too. Another good thing is that it weighs about 20-25 lbs less than the stock. This would help the suspension I would think. IMHO. |

| Any idea on which exhaust would make the deepest rumble? I don't want "loud". I want it to sound like a motorcycle. (Albeit a motorcycle with a badly slipping clutch..... ) |

Maybe this will help... This is what my scorpion can sounds like https://s410.photobucket.com/albums/pp188/willbernardo/?action=view¤t=MVI_5900.flv Sounds better without the baffles, (if you like louder.... ) https://s410.photobucket.com/albums/pp188/willbernardo/?action=view¤t=MVI_5901.flv And to compare against a bike, this is my Yamaha 4 cylinder, which is quieter than the S'wing even with the baffles in. https://s410.photobucket.com/albums/pp188/willbernardo/?action=view¤t=MVI_5899.flv

| I installed the Leo Vince pipe on my bike and got the whole just bolt on no need to dyno or anything schpeel. Now when I decellarate it pops, backfiring and now I understand it does in fact need to be remapped by a power commander. that is a few hundred more than I was expecting to put out. So much for simply disconnectnig your battery and it will adjust itself. |

| A word or warning... Don't expect dyno tuning to get rid of all the popping.... With heavy throttle usage my S'wing, (though it is fitted with a scorpion can and has some extra bits of stainless steel pipe to get it to fit) sounds much more like an older ducati complete with popping and backfiring.... Normal throttle usuage its not as bad... You get used to it though..... |

| Hey Robin, I have a Leo Vince exhaust system on my Swing for about 4 years now. It comes with a non-catalytic low restriction stainless steel muffler and tuned header pipes. The muffler has a removable baffle that is easily replaced with two screws in a minute. It's a little quieter with the baffle in and has a little more power from 30-50 MPH. With the baffle out it is a little louder and deeper but not annoying, and the power range shifts to 50-70 MPH. To me its a great modification and just a little louder then stock. Paul |
