Hi,

I just got home with my new 2017 Versys X-300 and it is a nice quiet and smooth bike. It was only 2.5 miles from the shop but it rode nice. I will ride to work tomorrow on the highway, about 8 miles each way, and see how it rides on the interstate. The shifting was very easy and the clutch is very easy to use. I have a CalSci windshield and a top case on order and hope they arrive soon. I will add more tomorrow and also post a picture.

Nice choice JeffR, the adventure bike market has gotten rather silly over the last few years with bikes getting ever taller, heavier, and more expensive.

So mini adventure bikes like your new Versys X-300 and the Suzukl V-Strom 250 are a welcome addition.

Fun without the risk of giving yourself a hernia! Shocked

Thanks Meldrew. It is a nice bike and also lightweight.

Hi,

I thought I would post a short review since I only have 170 miles on it. The Versys 300 is a pretty cool bike. It has 39 hp but only 20 ft/lbs of torque but it seems to be about on par with the SWing in terms of power. That is probably since it is only 385 lbs when full of fuel. I am still in break-in period but it is hard to stay in the 4,000 rpm range since it is a high revving bike. It is very smooth on the city streets and also the interstate and gets up to 65 mph pretty quick. I installed a CalSci X-Large shield which is the perfect height for me and keeps the noise very low and the wind off of me. I also have a top case as well.

The gauge is saying i'm getting about 62 mpg which is ok with me. Since it is only a 300cc engine it is working harder than the big SWing engine when doing interstate miles. It is still very smooth at that speed but is working harder. I sold my last bike and decided to go with a much lighter bike due to health issues last year, but I seem to be getting back to normal. It is much taller and sometimes I have to "help' my leg get over the seat but I figured out that if i step on the peg and go up that way it is much easier. Even though I'm 6' tall it is kind of hard at my age to get my leg over the 32" seat.

I will post more as I ride but I am really enjoying this bike so far.

I'm glad you like your new bike JeffR. That's how I used to get on my CB750 and Yamaha 850. I'd step on the foot peg and swing my leg over. It worked pretty well. 62mpg is nothing to sneeze at either.

Enjoy . A new ride is always fun. I would like a bike that that could ride a few dirt roads at times just to see where it goes. I started on off road bikes miss that.
