That is some beautiful scenery! Great Photo.
And I'm just guessing, but "Hardnot Pass in UK Lakes District" doesn't mean Upper Kansas Lakes District...

Oh there are no hills in Kansas, There are no hills at all. So if ever you take a spill, You haven't got far to fall.

Ahhh, gotta luv the Hardnot Pass, many, many years ago I was camping in Boot & on my return journey after a day's driving & sight seeing, I started up the pass when the mechanical fuel pump on my car 'died', the the lord for gravity, I turned the car round & reversed over the pass, going West to East.

The correct spelling is Hardknott, not Hardknot, in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. It's not for the faint hearted rider either with a gradient of 1 in 3 in places, and descents are hard on brakes.
If my memory is correct that photo is taken from the Eskdale side, and just before the seriously steep hairpin bends start.

I can see motorcycles all over that road in the summer ! A single laner with passing zones would be quite a draw for the adventurous rider ! My only visit to the Lake District was to Lake Windermere in the 70's: those were my pre-2wheel days. Some of the mountain roads around the Basque country are like that, with the added bonus of farm animals roaming all over them. Jay.

That was my first question. But I see a Silver Wing hand grip just sticking out behind that third rock in the foreground.
I should have looked before I spoke. I see it now.....I forgot how stock grips look when I changed mine out...sorry.

Yes, from that direction, the steep hairpin bend that gives some riders problems is just out of frame to the right of the photo. In summer, spectators gather there in anticipation.
Plenty of Hardknott and Wrynose Pass (one leads to the other) videos on YouTube for those over the pond.
I've just realised that I've never done it on my Silver Wing - only been on 1000cc+ bikes so far.

I went over Hardknott in winter from the Eskdale side on a 250 MZ way back in the Eighties. I got up there OK but it was coming down Wrynose that caused problems for me.
Snow had drifted across the narrow road and turned to ice, and the only way down was by paddling the bike through snow on the roadside verges. I was in no position to turn back as I'd already gone past the point of no return
I did think I'd drop the MZ as it slithered about, but luckily I was helped by some walkers who helped me support the bike down onto clear road for the rest of the steep downhill descent into Langdale.
I was thanking my helpers when we heard a group of motorcycles coming up Wrynose. They stopped a few yards before the ice covered stretch of road and looked at me. I explained to the lead rider that the icy stretch was impossible to ride on.
Uttering the immortal line "Maybe for you mate!", he flipped his visor down, put his bike into gear and twisted the throttle, and away he went.
He had got barely a machines length before the bike lost traction and both went down onto the ice with a loud thud, in a shower of broken indicator glass!

YES! Much better, I only turn on the date feature if I really need it. It tends to partially obscure the beauty of a photo. It should be easy to turn on and off in the camera. The file date (if you need it) is under file properties...

And there are those who jest, such as Tim, myself, Dale, ItBeMe, etc. Unfortunately, tone can not be typed into a post and sometimes one reading the post infers an incorrect tone or lacks the funny bone gene.
Tim understood and replied in jest. Neither of our posts were serious or critical.

Are you by chance a fan of Robert Heinlein? I realize this isn't from him, but this along with some of your other posts lead me to this conclusion.

Apologies if this appears twice.
I found a still frame of six of us on the same bit of road. I'm in the lead with the orange gear and you can see the second rider is having problems. The car had previously stopped to let us go by. I think the bikes in this photo give an idea of how steep and tight it is. The road surface itself is very rippled due to the forces of tyres braking and accelerating on the gradients.

I had to look up Robert Heinlein to see who he is/was. Never heard of him before. My Dad told me that one way back when.
How about this one to ponder? Why is a Duck when he flies?
One leg is exactly the same.
I also looked at your Flickr album. Very nice photos there. Thanks.
