Short story: was on a day trip and ABS light came on, chked axle nut and was loose again... 2nd time in 6 mons.

i carry most tools to do most anything so out comes torgue and tighten nut to 106 foot pounds and a little extra... nut not gonna do that again..... OPPSEY   heard a not good crunch sound,  affraid  short story is hauled it back home on a pals trailer dissembled the rear end and gear box and found a destroyed wheel axle bearing ... Mad  what i get for well nm learned my expensive lesson, and yes somewhere in the past i forgot to use lock nut. Evil or Very Mad

so took the down time to replace all seals in forks and bearings in front and rear, oil/air filter, plugs, added more led lights and new paint job.

resembled and noticed a distinct grinding noise took gear cover back off and inspected ... i had already cleaned and removed all debris from the destroyed bearing... a few very minor blemishes on 2-3 gear but not enough to make the noise it made. so resembled after determining  there was nothing major wrong in gear box,  then after turning wheel .. with gear cover and gears off i noticed the break caliper was moving left and right.... now am thinking might have bent wheel axle, BUT i put a center point on axle as wheel turned and axle stayed centered, no play left and right of wheel.

on the oil lvl in the final drive what keeps all the oil 1 1/2 cups from eventually leaking out the over flow hole next to the wheel axle bearing ring lock?

a collection of of pics, the above you guys might like the info for your own issues.

used light shot as it saves the forum space.

That's a bugger, personally, I'd change the complete unit, you've already done most of the work, simply take off the variator, undo 6 bolts & the shock absrorber bottom bolt & you're good to go.

Turning that upside down, there is/should be an oil seal inside the gearbox housing between the final bearing & the final drive gear that keeps the oil from draining.  If you have not fitted that seal you may well find the helix on the gears can force the shaft to move laterally & cause the gear teeth to touch the casing.

Oil seal is item #20 in your componants photo

https://www.ebay.com/str/borescycle

thats the ebay seller. he scraps 2 wheelers for parts and thank you bern.

have discovered why the wobble..... apparently during the short distance i rode the bike before I determined i had a major issue .. about 1 mile it wore the splines out on the wheel hub splines look ok on the axle but wheel splines on 1 side look wore.

http://prntscr.com/jnony7 new seal outside view
http://prntscr.com/jnoomy new seal inside view red arrow points to over flow vent

how does the oil stay in seams like it would eventually leak out though that??

Razor,
When I purchased my 2004 Swing I noticed rear wheel wobble. Discovered that the previous owner did not re-install the outer axle spacer after changing the tyre. This made it impossible to torque the axle nut to spec. I will be replacing both rear calipers and installing the missing spacer. Had to replace the rear wheel also. The splines were worn in the hub.
