| Dear Silverwing Bretheren, A Merry Christmas to you all...
I cleaned out my air filter (the foam one from inside of drive pully cover), the manual doesn't say to add foam filter oil, so should I just clean it, dry it and put it back? I know this sounds really stupid, but similar filters use oil - does the silverwing element not have oil in foam before reinstalling?
( Winged Warrior) changing belt in Toronto (: |

| No oil needed just clean it it's just there to stop any large particles from getting into belt case. No oil in belt area keep it dry. Fins on front pulley push air around in there to cool belt.
Merry Christmas.

| Thank you so much Mech 1 twa, I will go to sleep tonight knowing I don't have to take the bus to Canadian Tire and buy another product! Cheers |

| Does anyone clean this prior to belt replacement? I cleaned mine at about 14K when I changed belt and it wasn't bad. Just curious if there is a reason to clean it more often? |

| Time is worse than miles on the foam, mine had right at 8K for miles but almost 10 years, it was falling apart. |

| I give mine a clean whenever I take the drive cover off. Doesn't hurt |

| After replacing my drive belt I just blew air through mine to clean it. It was still in good shape but I also bought some thin air filter material on eBay to cut a replacement when it’s needed. |

| If there is a fabric shop in an area you frequent check with them, my wife favorite shop carries open cell foam and foam suitable for seat work. |

| Just did a good clean-up of the whole drive and driven assembly. Clutch shoes were glazed so I cleaned them up. Everything else was fine and not much dust or grime. However, the foam element was absolutely filthy. I cleaned it in some warm soapy water and the water was black. The foam element is a bit tatty but I put it back in and ordered a new one. I'm not fan of adding some oil to the element.
It really gets mucky in there, even after just 4 or 5 thousand miles. |

| Mine was missing when I did my belt and clutch maintenance…I used some closed cell foam for HVAC floor registers (that I cut to size) and that seemed to fit really well in the region for it. |
