PostSubject: Radiator Removal   front fork removal - Radiator Removal I_icon_minitimeSun Jul 07, 2024 8:48 am

Hi,

I need to change my radiator, is there a step by step for this or does anyone have any first hand  experience.

I have the workshop manual to follow but I always find someone’s first hand experience easier to follow

Thanks

Hi Green7.

I had to change mine not long after I acquired it.
There are several good vids on YT how to de-plastic a Swing, but none cover the radiator removal

TBH I just followed the workshop manual, the lower Tupperware has to be removed in a set order.
You'll need a container for screw and machine bolts. I kept each sections fittings bagged separate for easy reassembly(saves guess work, what length goes where).
Also while your under the plastics, any rust areas on the frame or subframes give it a coat of rust treatment while its easy, given the use of salt in this country.
And check the front and bottom of the fuel tank(behind the rubber curtain)with the radiator removed, for rust, bottom front curve was only just saveable on mine. In the end I removed the tank to fully treat it for rust
Reassembly is straight forward, if you have bagged your fittings. All in all it took me most of a weekend, including tank treatment.
Hope this helps.

Be safe, be seen.

front fork removal - Radiator Removal 20220910

The corrosion damage to the fins on the right of picture was caused by a weeping front near side fork seal over time,
Unnoticeable with the Tupperware in place. "and the moral of the story is...?"
Hope this also helps.

Be safe, be seen!

Well its on and what a barsteward of a job, all the plastics from the front end need to be removed plus the lower side ones too. Removing the radiator is straight forward with the exception of the rear top hose, there is just no room to get your hands in there to prise it off the old rad let alone connect to the new one.
In the end I bit the bullet and ordered a new alloy one from a company in France, £150 delivered and no duty. Delivery took  six days, very please with it so far

Nice one Green 7. It is a pig of a job but I hope it gives you many trouble-free miles.
