PostSubject: Changing Oil Anyway   Changing Oil Anyway I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 30, 2010 6:43 pm

When I bought my Silverwing two weeks ago with only 6751 miles, the previous owner said he had changed the oil, Castrol Synthetic was always used, in 2009....I checked the oil, and it was super clean and on the full mark. However, after thinking it over, I've decided to change it-----I guess it's mine now, and I just want to know it has been done. I bought two Super Tech ST 7317 filters at Walmart for $6, as was mentioned here so I'll do it tomorrow----I wonder about the trans/rear oil?? I suppose it's all a walk in the park------EB

Everett,

Here is a link for the Final Drive Pictorial:

https://www.silverwing600.com/pictorials-how-to-perform-maintenance-f21/changing-the-final-drive-oil-pictorial-t200.htm

If you follow these instructions you don't need to remove any tupperware. The manual gives other directions that require the removal of the tupperware. I would change it since it uses the same oil as the engine and it only takes about 15 mins and uses about 10 oz.

EB,

That is the file sharing site that I use for files. If you click on the .pdf file it will take you to the file sharing site. You will then see a link to "download the file". Just click on that and it will load the file. This forum requires a a file sharing site in order to store these type of files. If you can get it just get back to me and I can send it to your email.

Hey Everett,

Got hand made pottery items and wall art all over my house, that I purchased at the Laguna Art Festival from years past. What a great place visit....plus great restaurants on PCH. Changing Oil Anyway Icon_sunny

PostSubject: Final Drive Refill   Changing Oil Anyway I_icon_minitimeSat May 01, 2010 2:59 pm

JeffR----Thanks for the pictorials---I drained and filled the final drive after viewing your pictures, and it was extremely easy. The old stuff I drained looked dirty and as thin as water----so I'm glad I got it done. This forum is very instructive and valuable to Silverwing owners. Thanks so much. Now all I have to do is change out the 8 year old belt, and maybe install a J. Costa variator----what do you think??

Jim,

I had the J. Costa and it really does give great performance. I have a "Pictorial" for changing the belt and the variator so you might want to look it up too. It will save a lot of time if you review those first. I had to change my pics about every 9,000 miles so I went with the Dr Pulley sliders, the 28gram. They don't give anywhere near the performance but I really like them. If you want performance the J. Costa gives you the most bang for the buck.
