| Guys I am looking to buy a 2006 silverwing from a dealer in Austin. The bike 1 has been laid over from a lady that was going to buy it. BUT she did not buy it cuz to much power for her. The dealer was asking $4200.00 before it was laid down. NOW he is asking 3 k plus tt&l that is $200.00 more. He says there is nothing else wrong with that bike except the scrapes on the right side fairing and the lower right side foot area. Do you think it is wise to buy a bike for $3200.00?? OR bike no.2 This bike is in mint condition and has around 11.5 k miles on it. He is asking the same price as the first bike. The other bike has 8300 miles on it. Hopefully weather permitting i can get out to austin later this week to get either on of those. What other things should i ask the dealer about the bikes???
Ghost rider Greg Houston tx. usa 2004 honda silverwing with 40k miles on it thank you |

| Excuse my Brit ignorance. What do you mean by 'laid down'/'laid over'. What a language!!!! We all speak it but there are so many differences in the nuances!!! |

| Are both bikes 06s? Mileage is insignificant for either. "same price?" is that $3,200 or $4,200? IF it is the $3200, go for the mint. If the mint is $4200, unless there is something obviously wrong with either other than the scrapes on right side, it sounds like a toss up to me. A "mint" bike might be worth $1,000.00 more if scrapes are major to the other bike. But even if the scrapes are bad but only on one or two of the plastic pieces, repair might be cheaper. Just be sure there is not some HIDDEN damage that may not be obvious at first glance. As Waspie said, laying one over on the drive way is not the same as laying it down doing 25 MPH on the highway. I know because I have done both. I would ask for the specifics of the lay down/over.
Inspect both and choose. Sounds like both are reasonable options. Not one of the "once in a lifetime deals", but reasonable. If the dealer really wants to move the Swings, he might take less than asking.
Check other sources in your area. Like other dealer or Craigslist. See what is the going market rate. There are great deals out there. Folks are forced to sell for reasons other than damaging one. Patience can reward you in the long run. |

| Well Both bikes are 06 models the first one that is on austins craigslist was $4200.00 until a lady laid it down on a test ride. So then he dropped the price down to $3200.00 out the door. That is with tt&l The 2 nd swing that came in on friday is in mint conditon ok. So he told me this at like 6 pm and he would sell me both bikes at $3200.00 each out the door. So IF i did by one of them i would choose the 2 nd bike that is mint condition.. Now my brither is saying all sorts of shit like oh you can not trust any dealer anymore these days and other stuff lol. You know how brothers can be huh??? There is another 06 blue silverwing here in the alvin area that has only 1.300 miles on it and the lady that owns it wants $5500.00 on it. I told her what the kellybluebook value is for that bike. It is only $4420.00 so she will NOT sell it at that price i told her that straight out to much money. BUT she thinks cuz it is in mint condition and very LOW mileage she will get it NAH. I offered her $4 k to take it off her hands but no response
So tell me do you think it would be a good deal on that mint condition 06 silverwing that is in austin tx.??? Ghost rider Greg Houston tx usa |

| IMHO ... everything being true that the dealer is telling you ( the mint one is really mint, not one he pulled from a river somewhere) ... the difference in 11K miles and 3K is NOTHING... you will get 10s of more thousands out of either....... now that mint guy at $3200 is sounding a lot better....
TRUST BUT VERIFY.... RR |

| The price doesn't seem bad, especially since it's been a slow economy, and it's winter. It's more like a price you'd get from a private seller, rather than a dealership, but they may just need/want to get bikes out the door. If the bike that was laid down just has scratches on it, I wouldn't worry about it, but if he's willing to give you the other for the same price, and it just has a few thousand more miles on it, I'd probably go with that one. |

| Sounds like the bike is priced right. A few things to keep in mind, the Silverwing as we know it is at the end of its run. New units need to be cleared from dealer stock which reflects on the used market price. Again, motorcycle sales are slow due to the economy and the season doesn’t help the matter much. BUT, if you have a bad feeling about that particular bike you will never be at ease while riding the scooter.
Below are a few up to date tidbits to peruse to ease your mind on the price.

| If you are trying to see what prices people are asking for a scoot, try using a site called SearchTempest. It will search all Craigslist sites within a (user-defined) radius of your central zip code and display it in one place. It is much, much quicker than doing it city by city. Here is a sample centered around Houston:
http://www.searchtempest.com/results.php?location=77010&maxDist=250®ion_us=1&search_string=silverwing&keytype=adv&Region=na&cityselect=zip&page=0&category=8&hasPic=1&subcat=mcy&minAsk=min&maxAsk=max
While the info from trouble1100 is very helpful, it includes a big geographical area (if you are in Houston, a scooter in Miami or Torrence CA is not really within reach). SearchTempest lets you set the distance you are willing to travel.
And, yes, sales do stink nationwide. The dealers are probably trying to move anything they can just to generate cash flow to pay the overhead.
Good luck on your search.

| one year ago, i paid right in the middle of those two high and low prices you speak of($3700)......at a dealer for my 04 had 8000 miles and that price was out the door(ttlc). I have had no problems with my bike now with 26,000 miles... so either of those bike would be a good price....but if it were me....id offer that guy $2800 out the door no questions ask for that scratched bike....A SWING FOR THAT PRICE WOULD BE SWEET! |

| There is a 2006 Swing on southeasttx.com for $4200. (go to automobles then scooters) The owner said it only had 1100 miles. Garage kept with K & N air filter and Givi Airflow windshield. It is in Orange, TX.
I wish I had found it before I bought mine 3 weeks ago, although nothing wrong with mine. It's a red 03 model with 2600 miles.

| Thanks for the welcome Waspie, I agree, good advise indeed. I can laugh about it now, but I went through hell buying this bike. I'm new here and not sure where to post about my ordeal. I'm sure some of you would get a kick out of it. Great forum here, (wife would disagree ) The more I'm on here the more I'm ordering accessories. So far a Givi Airflow, Bestom top box, Throttle Lock, 2 helmets, grip puppies, mirror extenders and a battery tender. Maybe Hyperpro front shocks next. |
