| I while back I had a Honda trail 90 with a auxilaily gas tank. I had purchased another gas filler cap for it but never installed it on the tank. So all these years I had this thing out in my garage. Well.... I got it out and looked at it and wondered if it would fit the Silverwing...Well it does!! Honda part # 17620-102-730 (Honda Code 0835496) About $9.00 on-line. Just if you ever wanted to replace the locking filler cap for those long trips. |

| Thanks, DennisB. I would like the option of not using a key to open the gas cap. Found the part on a site just as you described. Very inexpensive. Thanks again. |

| Shoulder is same size, seal is same size and locking tabs same distance from stock Silverwing seal. Just an old style Honda cheapy fuel tank cap. |

| The way gas prices are going, I'm afraid to take the locking cap off my Swing!
But seriously, since there's usually ~2 gal in it after a ride to or from work, I think I'll get this just to save myself some aggravation. |

| Any of the Honda Elite or Helix fuel caps will also work. But you have to get one with a flat cap --as in Dennis' photo. There a several of those caps which have a 'grab handle' on the top of the cap which will not allow the Silverwing's fuel access door to close.
There are several of those Elite gas caps currently shown on eBay --both types. Spendy though. |

| Tim,
That was a good suggestion.
I do like the Elite gas caps spring locking tabs. Looks like the Silverwings. The price is a bit to high. looks like Honda part # 17620-GE7-023 would work also. The lowest price I've seen so far is $27.99 for this filler cap. |

| Is there not a after-market cap that will work. Something stright from the auto parts stores? |

| you will find they are generic with Suzuki, Kwaka and Yamahas' all having the same set up. The manufacturers of the caps would supply to all the big companies. Try the wreckers/ breakers for second hand units. |

| Thanks Dennis, such a great idea I had to order one. I've always thought it was a hassel to have to use the key, when who's going to mess with stealing 1 or 2 gallons of gas. The cheapest I could find, including shipping, was Bike Bandit at $16.97. Cap $10.02, shipping $6.95. Some of the sites I checked wanted up to $18 for shipping.. |

The only Elite gas cap that will work is the version with the "flat top" --not one with the "mohawk" top. There are a couple of flat top Elite gas caps shown on the page, but the prices are outrageous --and then you get to pay a premium price for the seller to send it to you. Tim |

| This might sound out of line, but what about having a copy of the key made (about $6), use it to "unlock" the fuel cap and cut it with a dremel so nothing extends beyond the top of the fuel cap. If it is smooth enough, it can be covered with a sticker or something that will hide the fact that there is a key in there.
If you ever need to lock it again, a screw driver will turn it to locked position and a long pair of pointy pliers can retrieve the stump so it can be locked/unlocked again with the uncut ignition key. |
