| I haven't been logging in here too often since I signed up, but I was just looking at a few of the bike videos that I like to make, and it occurred to me that I hadn't seen too much of this type of thing every shared out on this forum. Since contained mostly footage of my son Cory on his Swing, I thought I'd share it with you all.
It's from a trip that the two of us took near the end of May down the Blue Ridge Parkway and through Deal's Gap and back. It was a great father-son trip and one I'll always remember fondly. Hope you all enjoy the video,
Warren

| Great job Warren... very professional. That BRP is a very remarkable place to experience. My wife and I were there about the same time you and your son were. Didn't get to do the Tail (wife changed that plan) but want to ride the BRP again. Again, very nice job of posting the video. I will watch it several times. |

| Thank you all for the compliments. I'm glad you liked it. The BRP is a ride that every cycle and scooter enthusiast needs to do at least once. It's become at least an annual thing for me now.
There's just nothing like enjoying 469 miles of that kind of scenery that is uninterupted by traffic lights and suburban sprawl.

You should consider doing the whole thing sometime. I personally think the southernmost 100 miles of it are the best, along with the area around Grandfather Mountain are the best. Virginia has a few really special areas of it as well though. Here is a link that would take you to all of the videos that I have on that site. Most are not Silverwing related, but most are cycle related and there are a number of them from the BRP and the Smokies. All my Streetfire videos here |

| Hi Warren, At one time I was the fellow that changed the Forum picture at the top of the screen. If I was still doing that admin task I would sure be asking about getting a couple of photo stills of your videos to be used here. You do great work. Your an artist. |

| Personally I find the "razzle dazzle" transitions distracting from the content. When I do pro video editing, which I do, I find my customers prefer simple cross dissolves, pushes, and the occasional radial, with at most only 2 or 3 different transitions used throughout the movie. Viewers need to focus on the content rather than the gimmicks. If you put cross dissolves in you will see how much smoother the video will flow. I can also recommend some Ken Burns effect on the stills. It makes them jump out at the viewer.
Otherwise your camerawork, positioning, and exposure are great. Flame away. I can take it. :lol!: |

I suggest you start with iMovie, but then again I doubt if you have a Mac computer, otherwise we would't be having this dialogue. For all the PC users, start here. http://savedelete.com/best-free-windows-video-editing-software.html If you're serious about your video editing, start here: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/imac?mco=MTcyMTgwNTQ Again, all flames gladly accepted. |

| Warren,
I just spent the last hour or so watching the BRP and many other videos and enjoyed all of them - can't pick a favorite but relate most to the Yellowstone video having visited there last September. I plan on watching many more of your videos - better than any TV I have watched lately.
Thanks for sharing.

| I play golf on the internet, have done for 13 years. I've made a lot of friends over the years and one guy I've been playing with since the first week I started. He's health has not been good over the last two years, prompting me to plan a trip over to your country. There's a bunch of us that play regularly and chat on Skype while we play. We came over there in May, spending three weeks starting at Atlanta Airport GA, driving to Clarkesville GA (Golf complex, booked by another friend, who drove from Bedias TX with his wife, just to meet us for two days, plus another friend and his wife, from Nashville TN) Then up to my old friends place in Maynardville TN. One night there and then on to a cabin in the Smokey Mountains for 4 nights. John, the guy from Nashville came to meet us at the cabin. From there we went back to Maynardville, then to his brothers cabin on Norris Lake for two nights, then on to John's in Nashville for two more nights, then to my friends in Pulaski TN for the last week. It's been twelve years since my last trip to Tennessee, and your video, although of a different place, reminded me so much of our fantastic vacation in your stunningly beautiful country. Has anyone got any idea how I can smuggle my Swing into America in two suitcases so I could ride the BRP? (weight limit 50lbs per case) |

I don't mind the comments about the video work, positive or negative. I'm no professional at it by any means. I just do them to preserve the memories for some time in the future. I know that the little group of people that I ride with enjoys reflecting back on the good times by watching those videos too. I use a package called Cyberlink Powerdirector 7. I don't really know how it compares to other software. It's just what I've become comfortable using. It would actually be much easier to use just one or two of those transitions throughout. It probably takes me longer to do a video because I'm sometimes changing them around. This is the first I've heard someone say they were distracted by it. I'll have to ask our riding group what they think of it, since they're mostly done for my enjoyment and theirs. I just thought I'd share that first video here, since I hadn't really noticed anyone doing much of that on this forum and I thought you all might enjoy them. Perhaps it'll motivate others to share theirs? I always like seeing videos of other peoples rides....just not much on that really harsh rock music that some use. But even with those, I'll just turn it down. Someone said they couldn't pick their favorite....I have to agree with that myself. There are a number of them that I watch over and over, especially in the winter when snow keeps me from riding. W |

Your audio choice was also very mood complimentary. If you have the time, and it won't take long, try as you suggest to limiting your transitions to a maximum of two different styles. Then have your friends A/B the same video in original form and in simpler form. See what they say and go from there. Otherwise, keep up the good creative work. You have motivated me to do some video from my Silverwing. I have the RAM mount for a compact camcorder ready to attach to my RAM mirror mount. I am still debating whether to mount my camera low on the passenger foot peg. My only problem with that is being able to turn the camera on and off while riding. It's just too damn hot and humid here right now to even ride during the day. I'm a firm believer in all the gear all the time and I won't ride if it's oppressively uncomfortable. Terry |

| Terry,
Most likely, I'll try that with one of the next videos that I do. I don't save the project files, so it would be a lot of work to go back and try to recreate the same video with different transitions without that.
I'm looking forward to seeing your Swing videos when you get around to it. I use a great little clamp that I found for mounting my camera on different places on my Goldwing.
Clamp
It's very flexible, but I'm not sure how many places it would work on a Swing. It works best on solid surfaces, like crashbars, etc. I've used it on the edge of the windshield, but that tends to shake around too much with bumps. The lighter the camera, the better.

| That's quite the versatile camera mount, and not ridiculously priced either. I would be borrowing my son's Canon camcorder. It's light and small, but not HD. I have 4 hard drives in my Mac Pro for keeping project files for at least 1 year. That way if someone wants a modification at a later date, I can do it easily. If you're serious about video editing, and it sounds like you will be in the future, maybe an extra 2TB drive or two may be in order. |

| Finally found Warren's post [wanted to view some more of those great videos] and noticed his comment about others sharing some of theirs - well here goes. Below is a short video in WI on Country Road X which is SW of Menomonie - I'm leading on the SW and Ray [more on him later] is shooting with his Hero Pro HD - this was to check out Fall colors on some of the quiet WI back roads. https://youtu.be/Pm8LZfWS5Wc A little more on Ray - he is an amazing 83 years young - on his 3rd new cycle in 4 years - decided to do better video so hence the Hero - new HP fully loaded computer to help out; most amazing is his energy - rides every chance he can and most often in good old WI. I met Ray a few years ago and we have spent a lot of time exploring WI - hope it continues for many more years. I also have a Hero 960 HD and have a few videos to share but need to spend time this Winter and learn how to edit these things - one of my videos is from the STO 3 state ride this Fall. Hope this posting is in the proper place - the topic seemed to fit. Rick V |

I shall watch this again and again, I usually ride with my son in law, so just two bikes made me feel i was there, thanks once again. |

| Warren, Thanks for the two new videos - snowed today so had a chance to view them - it went from Fall to Winter in course of 3 hours here in Minneapolis area - yuk. I will provide a link to another WI ride that our retired group did on March 31st of 2010 - quite unusual to have 70 degree temps and clear roads that early in MN/WI - notice the lack of leaves on the trees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FljmtuJuI9c&feature=youtube_gdata_player The video is on County Road F which is NW of Alma, WI and not as well developed as some roads - it is absolutely beautiful in fall colors but always fun with twists, turns and elevation changes - hope those who view find it interesting. The camera was a Kodak HD and it was mounted 18" off the road surface. I'm done posting for a while now - besides will be busy watching all of Warren's videos. Rick V |
