| Hello. I'm new to this forum and also a new Silverwing owner. I purchased a new 2012 Silverwing on Sept. 5th. Now have 450 miles on it. It is a great bike and has the Honda Quality. I traded in a 2009 Kymco Xciting 500Ri ABS which I also purchased new in May of 2011. It had 4600 miles on it. The Kymco was a pretty good bike also but I was always concerned about getting parts and service since there are not many dealers around and the one I purchased it from was a very poor dealer with terrible customer service. I can say that there is a noticeable quality difference in the Swing and also the dealers. I have owned motorcyles in the past, my last was a 2007 Honda Shadow Aero. As I am getting older (66 now), I prefer the easier riding and handling of the maxi Scooters. I plan on doing my own oil changes and other periodic Maint. but still not sure about major items like CVT belt change. Thanks for the great forum, looks like lots of good info here.

| RichG, welcome to the forum. You will really enjoy your Silverwing, yes Kymco does make a pretty good bike. I'm sorry you had bad luck with your local Kymco dealer. We have a good Kymco dealer hear in St.Pete. that has been in business since 1972. They also sell bicycles and electric scooters. So parts and service are no problem hear. But like you said their is no comparison between a Honda and a Kymco. You are close enough to St.Pete. that you may like to check out the post I put up for our fall rally. |

| Roger, Thanks and I'll look for your post for your Fall rally. What model Kymco do you have? The dealer can make or break a product ownership. RichG |

| Welcome RichG. I've only been around here a few weeks myself. This place is a gold mine of knowledge and experience. The scooters are all so similar for all years that most of my questions have already been asked and answered (many with illustrations!). The search button is our friend. Waterboy Carrollton, Tx. Welcome to the forum and the SwOC :-) I think you'll find there are plenty of others around to guide you when new challenges come up too. My cousin's wife worked for Honda America in Ohio for many years before retiring. It didn't make a bit of difference on my choice or the price I paid, but knowing what I know now, I would gladly have repeated my purchase but I would have looked harder for ABS, a taller wind screen and a Givi lighted top box. |
