Givi AF214 Airflow Adjustable Windshield install on 2012 SW

First topic message reminder :

I just finished installing a new Givi AF214 Airflow adjustable windshield on my 2012 Silverwing and thought I would share the steps I went thru. I know Jeffr posted instructions for installing a Givi windshield (which I also refered to, thanks Jeff), but there are some differences here. I hope this helps others. I am attaching a PDF file which has the pictorials and instructions I created. It took me about 1.5 hours to complete but I could do another in 30-45 minutes now that I know what to do. I assume that the procedure would be the same for previous years. The instructions provided by Givi are the worst I have ever seen!

As were talking about being off course, I've been known to set a destination on my sat nav, and at each junction take the opposite road to the one suggested.

I've found some interesting new roads as a result.

A Firkin is nothing to do with roads, but is the British measure of excess. It is equivalent to 9 gallons (these are larger than US gallons) and is always used in multiple s of two, e.g. two firkin heavy, two firkin big e.t.c. A fork in is a divide in a road.

Laughing at Berra for the, "if you come to a fork in the road, take it" actually made sense as a joke when you know he was telling a friend how to get to his house. There was a fork in the road approaching the Berra residence where the road went around both ways around a block and either leg of the fork would get to Berra's place.

Gravy is brown not white or red. The red stuff made from tomato is sauce! Biscuits are usually flattened, ie cookies. The US biscuits are actually buns, like a lot of things   they just dont know . 
As a kid growin up the word firkin was commonly used ie- "stop firkin around"! Being from the east coast a lot of british/english terms and sayings drifted across the pond. I even know what a bonnet is! Bonfire night was/is celebrated etc.

USA and UK, two countries separated by a common language.

The Canadians have got it right with their gravy using the proper brown stuff, they don't ladle what looks like the contents of a bill posters bucket with a few sausage specks in it over their poutine.

Bonnet has a couple of meanings over here, it usually refers to what's called the hood of a car over the Pond, or for a type of headwear. As women don't usually wear sun bonnets or such anymore, a bonnet is the traditional hat worn by Scottish infantry soldiers. The Tam O’Shanter, Glengarry, or the ceremonial feathered bonnets worn by Pipe Bands.

Let's clear up this gravy/sauce business.

Gravy is based on the juices given off by meat/poultry/game (but NOT fish) during the cooking process. Gravy may have additives, like wine or stock, or thickening/flavouring agents.

Sauce is made from things other than meat juice; ie tomatoes, cream, milk, etc. Any liquid from fish can also made into a sauce.

Neither is good for cleaning a windshield!

In the US a bit of milk may be added to meat gravy, also flour may be used as a thickening agent. Sausage, or Country gravy could be called a sauce, it fits the definition but in most of the US it will definitely be called gravy. Fried potatoes sliced transversely to the potato are called chips here for the most part unless you order fish and chips. In that case the chips are cut longitudinally and are what we normally call French fries. I suspect calling them chips in that case comes from the UK. In the US ketchup (catsup in some places) on the fries and tartar sauce on the chips is most common although some use vinegar in the UK manner.
Beyond all that and to stay on subject none of the above materials are good on windshields either OEM or aftermarket.

Thanks RichG for the instructions. Installed the Airflow in about 45 minutes, first time I've worked on my SWing (just bought it used a month ago). What a tremendous difference the windscreen makes!

Do you mean the Roux brothers?

And the Calendar Girls are going to need some bigger buns.

On topic though, thanks for the detailed information. I might even be able to install the AF myself. It's on my suspect list of farkles.

This is an awesome modification for the SWing. Much quieter and a far more pleasant ride.

Roux is great for cleaning windshields! Either OEM or Aftermarket. Aftermarket is probably not as good tho because it does have a bit of acid in it. It's great for cleaning bugs off tho but wipe it off quickly...

Anyone know what website has the cheapest price on an airflow?? The standard givi one on mine just gives me some bad buffering. I'm 6'6" btw..

He rides a scooter himself and I like to help the little guy who is a brother rider if I can.

Meldrew I was going to wright "he rides himself" instead of "he rides a scooter himself" but I thought someone might interpret it wrong. I didn't even notice "Brother rider". I didn't mean to infer anything about his habits, which I know nothing about.

Anyway I just installed my new adjustable GIVI AF214. Thanks for the detailed instructions. I lost a grommet-I'm not sure it was ever there. The Honda dealership must've seen me coming. He had packs of 6 of them, screws and all, in 3 different colors. He didn't even have to go in the back - they were right there on the shelf. I don't think they were the exact same grommets - they didn't have a slight bow in the center like the original, but i think the one I used will be OK.
About that GIVI supplied bracket - I know one user said he didn't use it and I bet that's OK. I did install it. I think that's a Star T30 bit to get the Honda bolt out and a T25 to get the Givi bolt in. I dropped the shoulder washer but found it quickly. That was fortunate, because that's a specialty washer - I don't know how much trouble it would be to find a replacement. At first it looked like the screws weren't going to line up in the bracket but once everything was in place they lined up fine.
Noticeable improvement at 60ish mph.
It looks important to keep an eye on, and keep sufficiently tightened, the 10mml bolts where the adjustable piece slides into the bottom windshield. And it looks important to push down thoroughly to completely close the clamp. You don't want that top piece flying off.
