Hello Mj here.... I just registered on this form and would like to say hello... Although I do not yet own a silver wing I am closing in on one. I am looking to this forum on the pros and cons of this bike before I jump in. It is a 60/40 split between nc700 & a 2013 silver wing. I was super impressed by the size and storage space of the bike. I don't want it as a daily driver.. I want to use it for trips to Key West and Ft. Pierce Florida... Hello again.. and any tips would be a great thanks....

| Welcome! :-)
If you put a top box on it, remember to keep most of your weight low so the bike stays more stable. Adding accessories? Lots of great tips/tricks in the forums. We won't hold your other ride against you but we might tease you just a little once in a while... Just kidding.
Ride safe. :-)

Welcome Mj. The problem with buying a scooter is you will find yourself wanting to go a little farther. Well, maybe not farther than Key West, but the Silver wing will take you anywhere and back. Personally, I enjoy the amount of storage available and the step through convenience and the twist and go and.....................Heck, I just like the Silver Wing. Oh, and the MPG and the dry feet and, and, and. Wait, the center stand. Grinsel would be upset if I didn't mention that.

Thanks guys for the welcome & tips...I finally decided on the silver wing 600.. And will ad a givi top box with the built in turn signal & brake lights..that is all the mods I am planning... Funny I am looking forward to working on it as I am a Master Mazda Technician, so I have decided on a used 08 with 5,500 miles...I figure if I can rebuild Mazdas I "should" know the basics on a steriod scooter... I will post up some pictures when I pick it up... The 8,999 sticker shock pushed me into the used market....

Welcome. I lived in Kendall, Coral Gables, Pompano Bch and Naples (Also had a small weekend place south of Daytona) for years before moving to Colorado. There used to be a very active maxiscooter group out of Ft Myers that did regular rides. Also the Space Coast Scooter Club, out of Cocoa Bch (not sure of the exact name) was a great group and very active. We used to descend on Daytona during Bike Week. There is some good riding in Florida, most of it being north of Orlando. After a few years I got really bored with South Florida's (ride 50 miles turn left, ride 50 miles turn right) flat straight roads, but then the weather can be pretty darn good. I also taught a lot of MSF classes there, mostly near Naples. As for the Silver Wing, it is a brilliant machine. it's biggest flaw (in my opinion) is the complete crap front suspension which can be fixed with a Hyperpro kit. The modded up 2002 I had in Florida would do about 110-115 mph and I used to get a kick out of passing groups of bikers at 90+ on some of the long straight inland 2-lanes (just feeding my ego a little ). Otherwise, on the Silver Wing, set it up how you like and 'ride it like you stole it'. Ride Colorado sometime, you will not regret it!

welcome. I've been riding bikes for 40+ years - started on a moped (real one). my current bike is a Silverwing that i bought new - mainly to get the fuel injection and abs. on my Valkyrie i went on several camping trips - furthest was 1100 miles from home. I wouldnt hesitate to take the silverwing on the same kind of trip from a mechanical or comfort aspect (i am a little cramped on leg room and i would add a much taller windscreen). I will admit that my tent camping days are behind me - getting to soft i suppose...
