On February 9th there was a TV special in the US to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Beatles appearing on the Ed Sullivan show. The February 9th TV show relived many great moments from the Beatles past and I wish that the show could have gone on so much longer as I never tire of the Beatles. What an amazing group they were as there music, lyrics, and performances were something that has IMHO never been surpassed. The Beatles have left lasting memories and brought joy for untold millions (billions?). Our friends across the 'pond' are undoubtably proud of the Beatles as they surely have reason to be!

You are about the same age as my son, that would make you from the next generation to those of the Beatles. Most of the time a generation is not impressed with the previous generations music . So it makes sense that you wouldn't care for the Beatles. |

I can't say I've ever bothered listening to the Beatles since the Sixties, we had so much Beatles overkill over here. We had the Beatles, but the US had the Byrds which to me will always be the definitive sound of the Sixties. I still love to hear the jingle-jangle sound of Roger McGuinn's 12 string Rickenbacker guitar, their harmonies and enjoy watching old youTube clips of them singing Mr Tambourine Man and their version of Bob Dylan's songs, Eight Miles High, etc. I especially like I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better, Tom Petty does a great version of that song too.

I cut my teeth on the Beatles (remember my mother was British so I got exposed). I really enjoyed them but always preferred the Beach Boys and the Dave Clark 5 (anyone remember them?). LOL I did enjoy Joe Walsh and his guitar. WOW! His singing not so much but he can play the strings...

Dont know how the beatles became anything! I guess it was a time when entertainers/entertainment were few and far between leaving little choice to pick from! Maybe it was a sixties stoner thing! God bless Yoko for ending their run, none too soon!

Maybe it was because back then in 1962 there really was nothing around like them, with that kind of energy and lack of artifice. I'd never heard anything so electrifying and exciting. Hearing those early tracks now, of course, they sound a bit lame. Dave Clark, Beach Boys, none of that would have happened if the Beatles had not blown the lid off the stifling scene at the time. And whatever else, they wrote some good songs over the years, some of which sound like they could have been done yesterday. The madness was, well, mad, but you had to be there. And I like Ol' Blue Eyes too- now there was a performer and a voice. The stoned thing came later, 66-67.
