| Would it be bad form if I bought the Drive belt I need to replace for 50 dollars less then the shop wants and hand it to them when I bring it in for the swap?

Is it a Honda dealer or an independent shop? If it's an independent shop I think it would save him the hassle of getting a belt. If it is a Honda dealer they may match the price if you ask them.

Marking-up the parts they supply and fit may be the difference for them between profit and loss. I don't think you'd be doing yourself any favours with them if you supply your own parts unless you know them well and have a good relationship with them - in which case it's something you'd probably have discussed with them in the past.

I suspect shop's don't mind you bringing them parts, they just increase the labour to make up for the loss.

You could ask them in advance if it would matter to them.

You need to look through some posts on Dr Pulley sliders verses rollers and makeup your own mind what would fit your needs. Myself I would go with Dr Pulley sliders 24gm or at most 26gm. As you can see what I prefer and what bjkaraoke prefers are two different things. Here is a link to read up on Dr Pulley sliders

Reason I don't do it myself is because there is some strange noise coming from the rear of the bike on acceleration. It sounds like two flat pieces of precision milled metal being rubbed together as part of the drive mechanism. Impossible to describe the sound. The Mention of rollers sounds plausible. Anyway I figure they will find the problem when changing the belt.
How much do new rollers cost? I have a feeling they need to be replaced or should anyway.

Great Rollers run about 50 bucks which means I'll get to pay 100 over the 300 dollar repair bill I am currently facing.

They won't check the rollers while changing the belt unless they are told to.

I'm afraid I would find a different shop to do my work if I couldn't trust them to check the rollers when servicing and diagnosing the drive line. The OP said he is bringing it to the shop because he can't diagnose the problem himself. |

Partsfish.com rollers are $19.63, shipping in the US would be about $5.00. You may have a dried bearing in the driven clutch ,lock up rear wheel and remove the nut at the end of the clutch and slide it off ,inside there is a bearing that will make a whining noise when the bearing is dry. Easy fix.

Just say you keep a spare belt, so you want them to use that belt, and you want your old one back so you still have a spare. I can't imagine them having a problem, but if they really want you to buy their parts, I'm sure they'll tell you.
