| first time posting pics
sorry I know this is in the wrong placebut I can't post to the general topics forum I hit this mixture of dung and mud leant over on a corner in the dark - went down immediately and the swing and I slid (seperately) down the hill (you can't tell but it is reasonably steep downhill) for about 300 yards, the bike was still rideable and got me to work and home, I was a little sore the next day! - Attachments

| Oh blimey! Sorry to hear that cornishtrailsloth. That road looks like some of the ones around here. Very difficult to see all that muck in the dark. Glad you're alright.
I guess the bike's a bit scuffed up. Are you going to get it all fixed up or just break out the gaffa tape?
Hope you're alright. |

| Thanks Cookie - yes I'm fine - ripped rainsuit and tear to the sleeve of my jacket -and the fairly unique to me experience of low level flight, but the plus side of a road covered in s##t is you slide really well, lucky there was no one coming the other way, there was a car in front of me and he slid at the same place I went down, he stopped and said he was looking in his mirror to see if I lost it, while I was getting my self together a police car came past and noted the event (no prosecution to farmer Giles because no injury) - I went to the nearest farm the next morning, after taking photos - they dobbed in their neighbour who has more or less admitted it was their mess, so I have put in a claim. I'm in two minds whether to fix/bodge myself and try to gain a bit of cash for my planned trip abroad (if I make a sucessful claim) or get it fixed up. But better not count my chickens. The main component damage (besides the tupperware) is a bent/ non-useable centre stand and (I think) a bent left side frame. I was really pleased with the effect of the plastic handguards, I reckon they allowed the scoot to slide without the bars digging in, and limited the damage. |

| Yes it can result in a fine for the farmer but in Cornwall it is a common sight - just not usually as slippy |

Ahh yes, here it's the Amish horses, or road exhaust as we call it, also road apples are mentioned but not quite to the degree as your experience. |

| Freind broke both lower leg bones slipping on horse's dung - I remember falling into pig S**t trailriding - no injury but the smell! Lingered for days |

| Glad you are ok. It could have been much worse. Be careful what information you post online as insurance companies have been known to troll through websites frequented by claimants looking for information to justify rejecting a claim. |

| Good point Scootist - not too worried as I would be surprised if they could find anything to use to do that. I think that works both ways as well - if a motorcycle specific insurer was seen to be trying to work against reasonable claims by motorcyclists they might be worried about losing reputation.

| I am glad you are okay, cornishtrailsloth. The Swing took it in stride too by the looks of the grinding down; and you rode it home afterwards, so it is one tough cookie. Jay. |

| I am glad you are ok.
I don't commute with my bike so I don't have any reason to ride at night and I don't. On the rare occasion when I have ridden at night, I ride as fast as my headlights show the road, which is not far for me, then I am a hazard on the road by riding too slow and traffic stacks up behind me.
For this reason, I just don't do it. I ride for recreation / fun. That ain't fun.
The picture I saw posted was just an empty road.

| The pic is of the muddy road - the mud was bad enough the car in front slid before I got to it, since he lost traction with 4 wheels I had little hope. The pic of the damage is in my album. Unfortunately I don't have the option of not riding, can only afford to run 1 car and my wife gets that for work and household errands. Don't have the option of riding in the light all the time either as I work day and night shifts. Well used to country roads and farmers debris, just had no chance this time. I have put my claim in now and waiting to hear back. |
