| I took the scoot out for a test ride with the Givi AF214.
I am experiencing some squeaking noise when I drive over slight bumps on the road.
I am curious if anyone else has experienced this?
Could it be the rubber compression gromets?
Thanks,
Erick |

| Possibly!
If your like me I was cautious when tightening the bolts too much and it was all a bit feely - touchy regarding the rubber grommets. |

| It looks like the windscreen is rubbing against the Givi supplied bracket at the top hole.
I tightened it up a little and it is better, but not slight.
Not sure if you have the same issue, the top holes to not mate well. You have to flex the shield to align the holes |

| I thought about taking a heat gun to form the windscreen. Have not tried it yet as it would be an expensive mistake |

| I had a serious squeaking noise with both, the stock windshield and the clearview. I later found out that the rubber gaskets in between the fairing and the windshield where the source; also the rubber in between the headlight and the fairing.
All of them were gone after applying some spray silicone lubricant (do not use petroleum-based lubricants like WD-40; those will damage the rubber).
I need to reapply silicone lubricant after almost every wash but that keeps it quiet and the rubber is less likely to dry-out. |

| I wonder if vaseline would work. Would it ruin the rubber gasket? |

| Vaseline is a petroleum-based product... it is the arch-enemy of rubbers... of all kinds |

| Isn't there a commercial rubber spray/rub-on application you can buy in most parts stores?? It's made specifically to apply to rubber gaskets (hood/trunk/window seals), etc, to maintain flexibility, longevity, looks, and, I suspect, should take care of squeaks too. |

| I have been doing some reading on the net.
I am going to try silcon grease. Used in many plumbing application where rubber is involved.
So, the plan is, remove the AF214, removed the rubber grommets, lightly coat them where it touches the windscreen and the fairing on both sides.
That should fix it.
Any thoughts? |

| Just one final thought... you might go to an auto parts place and ask if they have some plain ol' "rubber dressing" application. Similar to "belt" dressing, if you're familiar with that, but is a dressing application for "rubber". Sorry I don't know what the commercial name is for that stuff. |

| Pole fishermen use a silicon spray on the silicon elastic in the pole. Any silicon lubricating oil will do. I used some nylon washers on the six bolts that hold the screen. They are about 1.5 cm (3/4") in diameter, helps to spread the loadover a bigger area on screen. Don't know if that will help to stop the squeaking. Make sure the bolts are reasonably tight, that should stop any movement.
Cheers, |

| I asked my lad today about this today, as he fitted my AF214, he said he applied a liberal coating of PTFE spray on places where different types of palstic/metals etc come in contact with each other, thats plumbers for you |

| I don't get a squeak but I do get an annoying rattle, I've identified this coming from the front panel that covers the screen - some hamfisted spanner monkey in the past has broken off both the lugs on the bottom. I tried to alleviate the problem by sticking strips of insulation foam on the screen when I replaced it - it didn't work and for what its worth I now ignore it..... |

| I used some plumbers/faucet grease that is water resistant and safe on rubber products. Hopefully this will fix it.
Will report back after my test ride. |

| Worked perfectly.
If anyone is interested, I purchased it from Ace Hardware.
It is called Plumbers Grease, Faucet and Valve, number is 4509
