| My wife and I took a 3 night trip to Lake Louise last Sunday, by car. Went up to the Columbia Icefields and knocked around Bow Valley Parkway, saw a bunch of black bears (surrounded by stupid tourists taking pictures), a couple of beautiful elk bulls with their antlers still in velvet (more stupid tourists out of their cars) and a few weasels (?, mink? anyway much bigger/longer and sleeker than squirrels) and just had a great time. On Wed we headed for home. On the cut-across to Radium I felt the need to remove some coffee from my system and pulled into a rest area. I immediately saw a grizzly female and 2 yearling cubs about 10' from the road, glad I was not on 2 wheels or the seat may have become a bit soggy. We went into the parking area and watched them graze for about 10 minutes from a distance of about 30'. Sorry about the dirty windshield but I am not a stupid tourist. Needless to say I found a place a few miles down the road to get rid of the excess coffee. |

| Reminds of of what I use to tell the kid's in my son's Scout troop years ago
"What do you do if you come across a bear ?
Answer ; "Run !"
They would say "You can't outrun a bear !"
I'd say "I don't have to out run a bear, I just have to out run you !" |
