| This is my first post and similar to a previous thread. I understand that nothing much has changed from year to year with the Silverwing. So a 2012 should be as good as a 2013. I'm seeing a new 2012 SW for $6999 plus $298 for freight and setup, plus taxes and dont know what else at TRACK N TRAIL.
This looks to be the best price I've seen this past week. Has anyone heard of this dealer? I would have to travel 190 miles each way to buy from them. Im new to the bike scene and not sure if I should buy local or long distance. |

| The price sounds excellent BUT ask them for the out-the-door price before you drive out. By tacking on bogus fees they could push it up around the 8600-9000 that people have recently been seeing. As to a local dealer; if you have one you really like negotiate with them. In other words find a good deal and ask them to match or beat it. Most will if they want the sale. That said the SWings are easy to work on and need very little so doubt if you will spend much time at a dealer... |

| Having purchased over 75 new bikes/scooters since 1955---Consider trip to dealer---even if you do own work and there is problem with initial set up or defect, they should fix it. Cheap price quote with add ons can really raise the out the door price. I don't have a new Vespa in my garage right now due to the 220 mile round trip to dealer....as one of the reasons.
Southern Honda in Chattanooga has the lowest prices out the door I have found....provided they don't try to screw you on accessories/finance/other useless things. I have traded there a couple of times (and they are less than 10 miles from my house) and you stick to guns, cheap place to buy or trade.
2012 SilverWing their quote $7800 if I trade and I only pay tax on difference. As I recall $82-8300 on 2013. Years ago buying left overs as real big discount ok----but now with left overs and current model year costing near same, I find current model year better deal when time to get rid of, example my left over 2011 Burgman 400, been on road only 13-14 months, 24,000 miles is treated as 2 year old bike if I want to trade it |

| As Glenn said...that is an excellent price. And I would get confirmation of the out the door price before you travel that distance. But if you can get it for that I would go for it quickly. And the models haven't really changed much at all. I think there was some kind of change between the first year and the 2nd year but I can't remember what it was. |

| Thanks ken-z for the track n trail review. Thanks all for your comments. I emailed several bike dealers for a quote on the silverwings. Have not received any replies yet. Only one said he was expecting a delivery soon. Hopefully one from immediate area their price will match. If I buy from T & T -- would a local dealer in Philadelphia honor the warranty or do I need to go to State College should a problem arise?

If it is a Honda warranty any dealer will honor it! |

| So far only one local dealer answered and he doesnt have any 2012 models but wants me to wait for "next" shipment "any day now". I have a Piaggio X9 500 that I want to trade-in and if I choose the State College dealer, I would be ok with scooting the distance. The 'out the door' cost is $7980 includes all tax, all fees and title registration. If all goes well with the sale, does the SW require a break-in period? Should I have it shipped? What if theres damage during shipping that I do not notice right away. I'm sure I would have to take it back to place of purchase.

| All new scooter requires some breaking in period ,as long that you do not maintain your rpm at a constant. Ride your Swing in a stop and go for 30 minutes before hitting the HWY . Vary your speed for the first 600 mile oil change . The Swing engine is bullet proof constant 60 mph hwy speed for a long period with up and down between 50 to 75 mph should not be a problem. |

| In addition to what tinman states above, my dealer told me to be cautious of the tires for 60 miles. He said they need about 60 miles to break-in and corner and brake properly.
I picked up my new 2012 and rode it over 100 miles the same day. Just vary speed and don't over-rev and all should be rosy!!! |

| Scrubbing the tyres in isn't just a case of riding down a straight road. It involves leaning the scooter / bike over in the curves / bends. It gets rid of that 'waxy' coating that causes the tyres to slip away from you.

| You could plan an alternate route for the way home... Take the back roads, stop an eat, and enjoy your new ride... |

| When I bought my first wing in march 2010 from track n trail the weather was cold and rainy. I trailered it home , a 100 mile trip, and waited for better weather to break it in. |

I noticed on Craigslist (before I bought) that their was a 2012 in PA. listed for 7999.00. I know nothing about having a bile shipped... As far as break in.....tinman had it right. Good luck and let us know when you purchase. |

| Still window shopping. One local wants to sell me Burgman since it will come out same monthly payments if I finance. Doesn't seem to be any dealers who will try to draw me to them. If I do decide to go long distance, I will follow all your advice and gothe scenic route. |

| Was it about the faulty CVT? That's really scary. One of the reasons I like scooters is automatic shifting. The Burgman has a manual shifting feature which to me is useless since I would not use it. I'm sold on the Silverwing. I just need to fix my credit a bit so I can lower the interest rates. Thank you all for your replies.

But...I`m not bitter....Why?....I ended up with a Silverwing! |
