| Has anyone ever had this annoying noise at slow speeds? After 20 miles per hour and above the noise dissipates. I can't feel anything loose on the outside. I wonder if there is something in behind the dash that might be the culprite.
Anyone else have had this noise?
Thanks, Disturbed from Western WA |

| Yes - riding over the cobblers in Bruges always caused rattles. I put it down to wiring flapping against the inside of the dash. |

| Broken tabs and loose screws in the front cover can be the cause or anything that of hard substance loose in the glove box .I put a soft place mat in the glove box to eliminate rattling sounds. It can also be sound traveling from the drive system to the cover . Swing's some times do these vibrating sounds. |

Is that why you had to leave Belgium, running over defenceless Flemish shoe repairers? |

Thanks, Disturbed from Western WA This is a rather strange introduction. Why don't you go to the "Introduction" section and introduce yourself? It is not beyond anyone to help a stranger, but helping someone we know is a bit more pleasing. |

| I also, have, and have had, for years the rattling or rumbling sound that shakes the front end. If I start off slowly it is not as noticeable and have just given in the fact that it is from the belt. It is not constant and had the problem even before replacing the belt for new Kevlar one. |

| I'm going to guess that the noise you are referring to is nearer the right hand side box. The left side box is a bit better anchored and so is less likely to make noise. The right side box is positioned very close to some wire looms and I believe there is a coolant hose close to it. The box could be making contact.
But the Silverwing seems prone to a good bit of shaking in the front fairing at those slow speeds. Any broken tabs or loose fittings will make those noises worse. Ensure that the box is securely held by the single screw at the aft location near the lid catch. |

| No. I believe my noise is coming from the middle, front of the tupperware and it shakes the front of the bike. |

| With respect johnd, OEM belts have Kevlar in; after-market ones are advertised as having Kevlar in as a sales-gimmick and for X9s have been shown to be less cost-effective than the ones supplied by Piaggio. I'd always use a Honda-supplied one for my Silverwing. |

| Thank you MikeO. When looking for a replacment belt and reading different articles on this website, I found one that was an after-market with Kevlar and less than the Honda brand so I went in that direction. |

| The front fender is like an amplifying "horn", picking up noise and vibrations from the road and drive line. |

| Could be tire cupping. My front tire would make vibrating noise going into a curve. |

| Figured it out. The right hand glove box. Put some thin weatherstripping down under the glove box. Much better. Now have to figure out the noise that seams to be coming from between the ears, lol |

| I have this issue also. I found that the vibration was so bad that it snapped part of the plastic on the main front piece where it joins with the windshield cover. |

| My 2002 vibrates/resonates on take off - always has. Soon as it gets moving that pretty much disappears. I'll be the first to acknowledge there are a few broken tabs and plan on attacking the problem this fall when the temps/humidy get back to a reasonable level.
Along with this, I have a question for the Forum - my SW is a 2002 year manufactured in Dec 2001 - are the newer SW's any better regarding this problem? I drove a dealers 2005 SW with 5k miles before purchasing my 2002 - that was even much worse than my 2002. Any thoughts anyone wishes to share?

| I found that the vibration from a stop accelerating to speed has been greatly reduced by replacing the variator weights with a set of Dr Pulley sliders. Both original sets had a few weights with flat spots on them. These are the three worst from the 09 with 17k on the clock. My old 06 had four weights that were in worse shape than these at the 10k mark. Â

I have it too on my 2006 Silverwing. If you put your hand on the glovebox on the right especially, the noise goes away. It is the loose fitting of the glove box cover.
Not sure how to fix. If there was a way of putting on a better catch to hold it closed which was tight instead of lose, it should go away. |

| I have what sounds like an identical rattle on mine too. I only got the bike yesterday and took it for it's first run, just a mile or so to the local garage to fill with fuel. Will follow the suggestions that it might be the front pocket, thanks. |

| There's a small screw inside the right hand side glove box that you remove to take out the complete glovebox pocket and lid to fill and top up the radiator with coolant. If that is missing, it might cause the whole glovebox and lid to vibrate. |

| Since I got my second hand SW T600 beginning this year I noticed a steady increase rattling noise around 60km/hr. Driving above or below 60, the rattling noise stops. The problem was finally traced to the drive belt vibrating hitting the bottom of the drive housing. According to Honda, it’s a known problem even with the latest Honda scooter model. The bikes done 22000km. When I replace the drive belt at 24000km, problem should be solved for a bit. Dave B |
