New noise in drive Empty
PostSubject: New noise in drive   New noise in drive I_icon_minitimeWed Aug 14, 2013 10:58 am

I'm a new member with a 2010 silverwing 32,500 miles on it,putting it away in the garage I noticed  a noise that I hadn't heard before, while riding it sounded like a very underinflated tire, which wasn't the case.I put it on the center stand and ran it up to around 30mph and the noise sounded like pipes rolling .has anyone had this experience? This swing was never babied, however it's not been abused.

New noise in drive Empty

I am getting close to 40,000 miles on two (total) SWings. My clutch (rear wheel) seems to periodically make new and disturbing noises (metal-on-metal scraping sounds) - especially if I have NOT babied it and have done lots of rapid starts. I have never been able to get rid on the noise - but it seems to cause no harm. Rapid starts in my opinion brought on the noise as neither scoot had them originally. IMHO the SWing rear clutch system is not suffiently robust for the power of the SWing - but it seems to do its job. I have never had to do any repair on any cluch component but I have lubed needle bearings and tried to reduce the scraping noise (to no avail). I have deglazed clutch pads with sandpaper and done the engine rev while holding the brake - but I now try to avoid the engine rev process as on one SWing it made my clutch noise much worse. I really have no idea regarding your noise - and what I offer above is mostly opinion based on my observation. If I were only to take off slowly I am guessing that I would not have any rear clutch noise - but who can do that!
