6 point 24 mm box wrench

I read all the oil change topics and heed all the warnings from Dennis re 6 point box wrench for the tappit. I just cannot locate one like it anywhere: I tried searching Ebay, Amazon, Harbour freight...no luck. Maybe I am not doing something right. I have all my other supplies, including a combination 6 point oil socket wrench ( with 8 sizes on it ) from Walmart. I look at the depth of the socket and compare it with the thickness of the Swing tappit and I can see trouble ahead.
So, instead of ruining my bike, I'd prefer your help in locating the right tool; ie 6 point 24mm box wrench as suggested by Dennis.

You can use anything that uses 6 points or more with out any problem socket and forget about looking for a box wrench because you will not be able to access the area with a wrench.
Just remember to look for the screen that looks like a cone falling out and dropping into the pan.

Finding and using the correct tool can save you a lot of money and headaches when working on your scooter. Try looking for a 24mm "IMPACT" socket in either a 3/8" or 1/2" drive. You can always get a small adapter 3/8" to 1/2" if needed. Most of all the impact sockets you will run into will be 6 point.

Dennis is right. The impact socket would be your best bet for a sure grip on that drain plug. Have heard many a horror story about those things. As happenstance would have it though, I went to Harbor Freight (after I first bought my SWing) and bought their iteration of an impact socket set and got set to do battle; I found it actually was not torqued very tight and was a breeze to get out and was never a problem at all. Hope you have the same luck.

I got a 24mm, 6 point socket at Auto Zone. Your local auto parts stores should have the same thing.

I got a flat six point 'ring' type spanner from e-bay UK. It was intended for the fork nuts on Suzukis (I think!) but it does the job well and no great effort involved.

As was stated above you probably will only have a fight the first time. When you replace the tappet it will be on correctly and much easier to get off next time. I bought a set of 6 point sockets (fairly cheap) and it worked fine.

Personalty, I don't know why he needs an impact socket. They are normally used with air tools (impact gun) and cost a bit more.
But again, the forum came to the rescue, for a fellow in need.

I've always used a 12 point 15/16" box wrench. Actually it was originally a 15/16ths combination box/open end wrench, but I cut the handle in half so that I didn't apply too much torque.

It's always worked well for me. That said, I did eventually purchase a replacement drain plug to have on hand after a few friends managed to strip the drain plugs on their Silverwings.

15/16 = 0.9375 ins = 23.812 mm

The first time I took mine off I used my 6 point Harbor Freight socket attached to a breaker bar that was supported/lifted by my M/C floor jacket - came right off but was too tight. Most tighten it far more than necessary - if you torque it on according to the specs it will come off next time every so easy!
