| Hi everyone, I have a couple questions, I want my two (2) Pillion Step holders chrome color, I tried use wrap film my self and it was a mess due to the different curves and shapes it has, I decide take them to a tint shop and they want me to pay $200.oo!!!!. Chrome them is very expensive as well, I found chromed covers at www.japan.webike.net at $138,00 each!! so, I am thinking to paint them so, I would like to know if someone has painted them with what results. What do you think? Advices? What to use? Other question, I need to remove the Inner cover as well so, someone has any helpful link or pics that help me out to remove it? I do not want to take out unnecessary screws!! Thanks.

| If you want bling ya gotta suck it up and pay the piper. Chrome ain't cheap. Maybe you could locate someone who can powder coat those pieces for you. But then you're at the mercy of what they might consider as a chrome color. Have you considered buffing them to a high shine?
If by "inner cover" you are referring to the belt case, it is pretty straight forward to remove it. IIRC there are 4 8mm bolts holding the outer, black cover, then 4 5mm hex bolts holding the inner, black cover. Once the black covers are removed the alloy belt case is exposed. To remove that there are 3 12mm bolts and 4, maybe 5, 8mm bolts plus one more 8mm bolt hidden in a "cavity" in, about the middle of, the belt case. IIRC one of those 8mm bolts is longer than the others. A few taps with a rubber hammer should loosen the case enough so that you can remove it by hand. Dont use a screwdriver to start prying at things. Double check that you have removed all the bolts; I just might be wrong on the count of those 8mm bolts --dont forget the hidden one.
Tim
Tip: You should mark the sequence and location of those bolts as you remove them. They do go back in a certain order. Failing to get that order right will mean that you'll be redoing the job over and over until everything fits right. Dont forget the hidden bolt. There are no extra bolts. |

| On something else other than the final object you could try a rattle can of chrome paint to see how that looks, if you don't like it at least you wouldn't be out much $$$. |

No help on the chrome question, but you might look under pictorials maintenance on the main forum page for help with removing covers. |

| Hi guys, thank you for replicate my message!! and actually I think that I found a good option though Dupli-Color system.
Tim: The Inner cover that I am talking about, is the one that hold the two pockets, it is where the handlebar is. Maybe I should say Inner box. Thank you again |

| I'm with cosmic, If you paint metal work where chrome is implied the project will look like a sxxt sandwich. So suck it up and pay the price. Remember to chrome steel it is a triple plate process, first copper, then brass then chrome (I like nickel better). The is a reason why it is expensive.
Chrome will make a far better accent than paint ever will.
Cheers, post a pic of what ever you do. |

It was my misunderstanding. In order to remove the inner cover you will need to first remove the left and right floor skirts, then remove the windshield garnish, windshield, and the entire front cover (body). Then remove the frame tubing which goes over the meter panel, remove the meter panel and handle bar covers. Then you can remove the two top screws above the fuel cap (and loosen the bottom two). At that point you should be able to remove the inner cover. There is a YouTube video showing how to remove the front cover. Use the search function above. If you are lucky it will direct you to the link for that. The video is in Italian, but even if you dont understand Italian you will still understand the steps shown in the video. Tim |
