Subject: Just got my Swing 2013 Sun Mar 09, 2014 6:03 am
I have been riding bikes most of my adult life, this is the first scooter I have owned. Its been a little different, for example the rear brake used to be the clutch, and changing gears. Looking forward to putting a lot of miles on the swing. I was disappointed when I went to charge my phone and there was no cigarette lighter installed in the box as I thought there're would of been. My dealer tells me when I take it back for the 600 mile checkup he will try to have one put in. Need to keep the cell phones charged and G P S going . Anyway I need a luggage carrier and a different windshield, where is the best place to order from.. Thanks

Hello.. I live at the bottom of Georgia near the Fla and Alabama line. I've enjoyed reading the post related to the swing. I am new to the site and new to the swing. Sold my gold wing few years a go and decided to get a swing. Only got a 100 miles on it so far so good..

Welcome to the site. You will find much information and opinion about the Swing, all from people who are passionate about their ride: the Honda Silverwing. They have other things on their mind too, but nothing better. You'll enjoy it here. Glad you like your ride thus far. It grows on you. There are many DIY's on here, and you will find lots of info and help on installing the extras you need.

Seminole2, welcome to the forum.
I bought my Givi AF214 adjustable screen from my dealer. It was a little more than on line but I decided to give the local guy my business.
I really like the adj Givi. When I bought my Swing it had the XL Givi. That was to tall for me. My husband put it on with not to much difficulty. Go to the search box and type in windscreen and you will get loads of info.

Welcome from Seattle.
We enjoy ride reports speckled with crisp clear pictures.
+1 on the Givi adjustable windshield.
Corbin makes a great seat for the Silverwing.
I sold my Goldwing last year as well. I enjoy the step through design and the cargo area under the seat.

Welcome and enjoy that SW! It's really pretty easy to install a 12V outlet in the trunk or cubby. I put one in the left cubby and in the trunk on my SW. All you need to do is to take the box out cut a hole in the front where there's clearance for the socket, remove the left rear panel and use a stiff piece of wire or welding rod to fish a wire from the box area to the back and connect to the battery with a 15A blade fuse holder. You can find push in plugs that can be installed by connecting the wire to the socket and pushing it into the hole, no nut needed on the back. Take a look at these universal sockets at http://wingstuff.com/products/3446-universal-power-plugs?context=gold_wing_gl1800-lights_electrical I've used those and they do make installation a lot easier. I hope you got the adjustable Givi windshield, it's the best I've had on a SW.

Welcome, also! When I bought my 2012 I told the dealer it HAD to have a 12 volt socket. Anyway, during negotiations my dealer agreed to pay for the socket and 1/2 the labor so I got one at delivery for around 35 bucks or so. Later I installed a battery tender tap on the battery under the seat, next I bought an adapter to go from the battery tender plug to standard 12 volt socket. This one is not switched so I can put my cell phone under the seat and let it charge safely locked up while I eat or something... Just an idea.

Best windshield replacement for SilverWing is the Givi adjustable---set at about the height of the stock shield (21-22") above the key hole....yesterday did 440 miles, discomfort too heavy a helmet.
looking over to stay alive.
On am on my second new SilverWing and have wasted lots of money on windshields that don't work and laminar lip, etc on SilverWing----GIVI adjustable=works
Basic problem with current maxi scooters is....your nose is too far from tip of windshield=buffeting. My base line for is Heinrich equipped BMW Air head or Honda NT700V stock ridden 60-65 mph.....all day comfort with 3/4 helmet and safety glasses....looking over!!

I got a question.. Is there a foot peg for the swing for the driver? I feel if I could put my feet outside the running boards I would be more comfortable. I didn't know if anyone else needed to stretch there legs out. If they do make the foot-pegs for the driver where did you find them and where do they mount?

SilverWings should have no drivers.....but riders.
I think you were talking Highway pegs......no need on maxi scooter as feet are forward anyway.
Leave highway pegs for cruiser/Harleys-----they probably get in way in spill, etc. Plenty of foot positions are available on Maxi-scooters

Highway pegs have been/can be done. See them in my album linked in my sig. However there is no 'formula" for them. Individuals have done it but it is not a sold accessory.

If you are taller, then foot position can be difficult on the SW. There are folks who have put them on the scooter. I just tolerate it as I don't put that many miles in town on my scooter. I have a road bike if I am going to do alot of miles, but if I did do quite a bit of miles on my SW, I would put some rider pegs on.
If you search this site for highway pegs, you will find some information.

I don't have very long legs for my height but I did notice the difference in legroom on the BMW vs. SW. I can straighten my legs straight out with knees locked if I want to on the BMW but couldn't quite do that on the SW. I never had a problem with the SW for leg room either for that matter but once in awhile on the road it's nice to straighten out your legs especially in cold weather when you want your feet inside the fairing's protection. One thing that annoyed me about Honda's marketing is that they don't sell the protectors that go on either side of the front fairing for the SW here in the us.

Others have altered/replaced their seat to move the drivers further back. My Corbin seat allows me to straighten out when riding. I am only 5' 7" tall.

This foot peg topic has been covered before, is it an American thing to want to ride a maxi scooter with your legs splayed out either side of the bodywork like a cruiser riding wannabe. I'm 5' 11" and I ride feet forward all the time, and if I want to stretch my legs straight I just move them outside of the bodywork one at a time for 5 or 10 seconds, and move them back in. It's dead easy to do, costs nothing and you're not hacking holes in the bodywork of your scooter.
As for that other old chestnut the availability of Honda lower leg protectors, they're still available to order mail from Honda UK dealers that do mail order parts, just as they have been for years. You just do the same as myself or other UK forum members would do if we were ordering things from the US.

Yes we could order them from the UK but that's not the point. If Honda is going to sell the bikes here they should be selling the accessories here as well. I agree one can stick one's legs out in the breeze to unkink the knees but it's a lot nicer when you can do that without putting your feet outside the fairing. With my current bike I can do that. As for highway pegs on some bikes it does make for a lot more comfortable ride. Riding pegs.

Now that you mentioned that.... putting the Corbin on my bike added some leg room as it pushed me back a little.
Also, I sometimes stand up to give my legs a little stretch while riding.
