| My new scooter is approaching 2,000 miles...and time time for oil and filter change---have decided to use WalMart 10-40 as it has worked for me for 500,000 plus bike/scooter miles----priced right.
I did 600 mile inspection, changed filter and oil---Rotella=works about a dollar a qt more than WalMart. My bikes do not go to dealer unless for warranty work
My long term schedule is filter every other oil change(after run in), oil every 60 days or 2,000 miles which ever comes first----maybe overkill but works for me.....both wet or dry clutch.
This bike I will run 50,000 miles....unless something better comes along(IN the area of wind management.) |

| My approach to oil & maintenance is similar to yours. I intend to switch to Walmart oil in my '12 Swing next change. Currently has 2700 miles, will change at 4k. Have been using WM 10w30 in my 2010 NHX110 elite since new, has 6300 miles on it now, not that many, but runs like new.
I don't take my bikes to dealers for anything else other than warranty work. My '87 Helix that I bought new in 1990 has 102.5k miles, is now on 3rd motor, runs like a watch and the last time it was in a dealership was the day I bought it. Have never had an oil-related engine failure on it using automotive oils.
Back in 1982 I bought a CX500D used with 18K miles. Sold it 12 years later at 124K miles, using cheapest (Kragen, Schucks, etc) oil at under $1/quart. At the 124K it used very little oil but the rods were getting loose. The clutch & trans operated like they would last forever. The last couple of years I owned it I commuted 82 miles round trip 5 days a week from northern Ct. to Groton year around. Never let me down once in all those miles. Probably was the best UJM I've ever owned. |

| Helix....had 4 new ones---WalMart oil in US----highest miles=50,000 at trade...others fell into making total Helix miles 175,000----no engine failures/change, My Suzuki GS500E, 64,000 miles on WM oil-----my dealer wanted it for special customer who wanted Yellow, replaced by Reflex....probably better than Helix-----but no trunk. |
