| Hi I'm interested in a silverwing I saw at my local dealer I know it's a powerful 600cc reliable honda. I just have a few questions, will it keep up at highway speeds 65-70, is it stable at high speeds? If I'm riding with a cruiser will I be able to keep up, and also how is it accelerating ? Thanks -scootman9612 |

| Yes Scootman, the SW is fully capable of cruising all day long at 85+ mph as well as exceeding 100 mph.
Now could you please extend us the courtesy of introducing yourself in the Introductions section of this forum.

| Three posts asking the same question and still no introduction. Yes the Silverwing will cruise at whatever speed you care to cruise at. What cruiser do you want to keep up? You can cruise over any speed limit in the United States. Yes it stable at high speeds. Now you should go here introductions and introduce yourself. Tell us a little bit about yourself. If you put where in the United States you live someone may be close to you that would willing to help you get a hands on feel of the Silverwing. Have you got your motorcycle endorsement? How long have you been riding? The Silverwing is a big bike if you don't have any experience riding. |

| That's fascinating, choosing 'scootman' as a forum name especially when you don't have a scooter and apparently not knowing anything about the performance and capabilities of the scooter you're interested in buying. |

Sarcastic yes, pointless no. You've now at least made a bit of an effort to Introduce yourself. Whether you'll eventually buy a Silver Wing is anyone's guess. |

| I had two new Shinko tires installed (Shinko SR568R Rear and Shinko SR567F Front) in July 2014. I have about 400 miles on them to date. The ride is good and grip seems fine BUT they are quite "squirrelly" on rain grooves. Lots of wiggling. The original tires barely responded to rain grooves. They were certainly affordable.
Do with that information as you please. If you don't do much freeway driving, then it won't matter much. |

| This may sound stupid but what are rain grooves? We have steel grated bridges and when they resurface the roads they grind the old road down about two inches which leave grooves that your tires want to follow. But I've never heard of rain grooves. I guess that makes me ignorant not stupid, but what are they? |

| Rain grooves look just like the grooves that has been planed into asphalt/Tarmac when they're resurfacing roads. In Germany they have long sections of rain grooved concrete on some autobahns in areas prone to thunderstorms. This helps deluges of rainwater disperse quicker off the road surface to prevent vehicles aqua planing and crashing.

| scootman9612 - I just picked up a 2012 in Dallas for that price. They have 2 left. I owned a Yamaha Majesty and got used to the "no shift" thing after many years on "regular" bikes. This is a good site with great tech articles. Don't let the quirky personalities on this forum put you off. It just makes the reading more enjoyable. I've only been here for a while but have found some very useful info. Welcome and enjoy... BTW: I'm really liking the SWing and am ready to head out on early morning ride before the heat sets in. Also, had the SWing up to an indicated 70MPH yesterday and it was running around 5200RPM and was very smooth.

| Update on the smoothness... Just returned from a short ride (around 30 miles in my immediate area - north Dallas). I did get on the freeway for a short 3 mile burst and this thing (the SWing) is simply smooth as silk at 70MPH. Smoother than any bike I have recently owned. The Majesty came close but no cigar. I have a V-Strom but to be honest I would tend to take the SWing when touring because of the protection and smoothness. I opted for the Majesty last year (instead of taking a 1250 Bandit) when riding up into the Ozark mountains with some friends because it was raining and the weather was cool/cold (well, cold for Texas... :-). The Majesty did great and made it up all the mountains although she did protest a bit. Anyway - the SWing will be a great touring bike. So far I only have 20+ miles on her but that will be growing. Haven't found anything I don't like. She does vibrate a bit from a red light but not bad at all. Just completed the expanded "moto-Man" break-in so I believe we are almost ready to start commuting. Thanks again to everyone for all the good info and lively threads... PS: I can't believe the SWings at Dallas Honda are still there; $5,999 +tax, title, prep and all the other stuff they tack on. Did and little dickering and got that last part way down. These are 2012s with 0 miles.

Hello Pancho, what's the matter with you today? Of course I’m sarcastic and I'm grumpy too, and I joined a maxi scooter forum for Silver Wing enthusiasts not a charm school. I'm not in the least bit interested in car tyres because (a) They're illegal to fit on solo motorcycles in the UK, (b) All the fun talk on Darksiding as you car tyre fetishists call in has it's own Section on the forum and I don't have access there, (c) and the guardians of this forum are called Moderators not monitors. You have a nice day now. |
