I noticed in your signature you have owned the Burgman. How do you compare it with the wing? |

| I don't know to whom you addressed the question above but I have owned two SWs, one B650 and now a C650GT. I don't like the complication of the Burgman's CVT control. If they fail, and some do, in the US the repair costs north of $3000 if you can find a dealer to repair it. In my area when I spoke to the Suzuki dealer if he would repair one he told me I'd have to ship mine to a dealer in the Bay area of California. That leaves me liking the SW and my 650GT. The jury is still out on the GT because they haven't been around very long yet while the SW has a solid, excellent reliability record. I think it's a shame that Honda has abandoned the SW here in the US. It looks like me they're also about to do the same thing to the Goldwing. They are leaving the field of the maxi scooter to BMW in my opinion same as they're leaving the super highway bike to the BMW 1600GTL.
It still seems to me if one of the maxi scooter manufacturers would get off their behinds and do an advertising campaign half as good as the old "You meet the niceset people on a Honda" ad that took most of the stigma about riding motorcycles. And there used to be a stigma. In my high school days motorcycle riders were considered somewhat of a 'hood'. Honda single handedly changed that. I think they could to do it again or maybe BMW could. There's no reason why some good advertisements couldn't remove the 'sissy' connotation Harley's so called 'macho' image managed to attach to scooters. |

| I had to chuckle the other day, wife and I rode the Silverwing out for lunch. Sitting outside, we watched a couple kids in their early 20's take a look at the bike. I think they liked it head on, but when they realized it was a scooter, you could just about see them turn up their noses!
I agree with you. Lots of image work needs to be done!
What do you mean abandon the Goldwing? |

| I like the "Bikers" or "Harley" riders thinking Maxi Scooters are beneath them, all the more satisfying when you overtake them and they try to keep up with you on the bends. I must admit I have an inbuilt dislike of "Pop pops" or two stroke scooters, comes from the early sixties when those screaming, smoking, Italian jobs really annoyed us motorcyclists in the UK. |

| I happily blank and ignore all nods and waves from other riders when I'm out on the road, I stopped all that nonsense a long time ago. It's just a meaningless auto-response that we all got into when you either rode knackered British bikes, or 'Jap Crap'.

| Your right 2 wheel. I should have said guys and gals. I am the third owner of my 09 Swing. It was sold originally to a woman in 2010 (had it 4 years) Then to an 83 yr old man in 2014 who had it for 2 years. Now this old guy got it 3 weeks ago. |

| I'm agreeing with Davefirestorm. FB is what I use to see what my kids and grandkids are up to. Other than that, it's of little value to me. As to the age of Swing riders, for many of us (old guys) it's just one of our rides and we're past the age of caring what others may think. We are still enjoying the ride! |

I've read the same about adhering to a Mediterranean Diet, avoiding processed foods, hydrogenated oils, fatty foods, tobacco, recreational drugs, alcohol etc. Also about taking regular exercise, a daily soluble aspirin, olive oil, whole grains, organic food, the odd glass of red wine, eating 5 portions a day of fruit and vegetables etc. I'll go along with that stuff, I doubt if riding a motorcycle has any health benefits, long term use seems to cause bad backs and knackered knees. |

| I wonder if this forum has thought about having a Facebook site, too? I think this site is pretty good, but somewhat slow. Fb would reach folks in a seconds and despite of the topic everyone would be able to see what your issue is.

| There's already two Facebook pages for the Silver Wing that have been mentioned on here, I've had a brief look like a lot of forum members have. What I didn't like was then getting one of the members on the US Facebook page, a weirdo well known on here from the Pacific Northwest popping up on my FB page under 'People you may know'. |

| DaveFireStorm: A while back I read an article that found that riding a motorcycle stimulates the brain in a way that improves cognitive function (sharpness) and hand eye coordination. I suppose you could extrapolate that improving these functions would also allow you to live longer as long as you don't crash and burn... |

| I have no doubt that riding on a motorcycle / scooter challenges the brain and body more than driving the car and might be beneficial for that reason. At the same time there can be no doubt that we are at a much greater risk of being involved in an accident and the consequences of such an event are far more severe without the protection you would have driving a car. Some ride on two wheels, because it is more economical or it gets them to work faster in peak hour traffic. For me it is just the enjoyment that comes from riding a scooter and I accept the increased risk that comes with it. |
